The new Agudas Israel Synagogue is located at 505 Glasgow Lane Hendersonville, NC. Five acres were purchased in Laurel Park in Hendersonville, NC. In 2000, the Agudas Israel congregation began a large construction project to erect a new synagogue. By 1996, the Congregation affiliated with the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, now called Union for Reform Judaism. #Moodle eckerd seriesA series of travel or “Circuit Riding” Rabbis presided over the congregation following Rabbi Cohen’s death. It was during Rabbi Cohen’s service that the Agudas Israel congregation began to align with Conservative Judaism. Cohen served as the congregation’s Rabbi until his death in 1964. Beryl Cohen, a graduate of Diskin Orphanage and Yeshiva Seminary in Jerusalem, succeeded Rabbi Williamowsky. In 1925, Chaim Williamowsky became the congregation’s first rabbi, serving until 1930. The congregation also purchased a section of the Oakdale Cemetery from the city of Hendersonville on May 3, 1938. The former community center became the Agudas Israel Synagogue and remained so until 2002. By 1925, the congregation had purchased property on King Street from the Home Electric Company. On September 24, 1922, the first meeting the the Agudas Israel congregation was held with twenty seven persons in attendance. Prior to the establishment of a permanent synagogue, the Agudas Israel congregation met at the the home of Mrs. The Agudas Israel Synagogue was established in 1925 at 328 North King Street in Hendersonville, NC.
